Lawn Care in the Winter
What Should Be On Your To-Do List
It’s the quiet time of the lawn care year when there is not much to be done. For some people, it’s a blessing to have the reprieve from the constant attention healthy lawns require. For others who enjoy lawn care, it might be a lackluster time of the year. While at Shades of Green Lawn & Landscape we have our sights on the growing season, we know there are plenty of things you can do now to set yourself up for a successful spring and summer. Learn what lawn care you can do during the winter.
Lawn Care in the Winter
Get rid of leaves. It’s not too late! If there isn’t snow on the ground, you can still get rid of the leaves left over from the fall. These leaves create the perfect environment for problems like critters and disease. Rake up your leaves and get your lawn as clear of ground covering as possible.
Remove furniture. Heavy items left on your lawn during the winter are destined to cause problems in the springtime. It can cause severe compaction—especially with the additional weight of snow—and you’ll find lifeless patches of grass when you’re ready to enjoy the warmer weather.
Be mindful of other sources of compaction. Just like heavy furniture, consistent foot traffic can cause compaction in your lawn. Don’t take the same path every time you walk to the backyard, and encourage the kiddos to explore new territory for their sledding adventures.
