Choosing a lawn care company can feel like crafting the perfect coffee order – there are plenty of options, but you want the one that’s just right for you. In Lafayette, Indiana, you’re lucky enough to have two standout choices: Get Green Lawn Care and Shades of Green Lawn & Landscape.

Both are local, passionate about lawns, and ready to help your lawn look its best. But when it comes to how they do it, there are some key differences.

So, which one is your perfect match? In this blog, we’ll dig into the details – service offerings, schedules, packages, and even client reviews – so you can confidently choose the company that fits your lawn’s needs.

Meet Get Green Lawn Care and Shades of Green Lawn Care

Let’s kick things off by introducing Get Green Lawn Care. According to their website, Get Green Lawn Care got their start in 2018, thanks to a local husband-and-wife team. The owner, Shaun, is licensed and certified through the Indiana State Chemist for all the company's services. Their website has some great lawn care advice sprinkled in as well as a portal for clients to log in.

Now let’s talk briefly about Shades of Green – my pride and joy, founded in 2010 by yours truly, Cory Overman. Like Shaun and his crew, we’re a locally owned and operated business. I am also certified and licensed for all the services we offer, and I’ve got a Turf Science degree from Purdue University. Our website also features a blog full of lawn care advice that is updated weekly, plus an easy-to-use client portal for all your scheduling and service needs.

Get Green and Shades of Green have quite a bit in common – we’re both local, we both care about great lawns, and we’re both all about giving you the best tools for the job. But when it comes to service offerings, packages, and client feedback, we’ve got our unique approaches.

Get Green vs. Shades of Green: Service Offerings

When it comes to lawn care services, both Get Green and Shades of Green have a pretty solid lineup. We’ve got quite a bit of overlap – both of us offer fertilization, flea and tick control, perimeter pest control, weed control, grub control, aeration, lawn renovation, seeding, and lawn disease control. That’s a lot of care options for your grass, bugs, and everything in between.

Shades of Green provides services to both residential and commercial clients – you know, those big businesses who want their lawns to look just as fabulous as your backyard. We didn’t see anything about commercial services on Get Green’s website.

We’ve got a couple of bonus offerings up our sleeve too. Shades of Green provides mosquito control (because no one wants to be a walking bug buffet) and lawn insect control to tackle those pesky bugs like billbugs which are a big problem here in Lafayette. These extra services are all about keeping your lawn not only healthy but also enjoyable – because what’s the point of a gorgeous lawn if you’re too busy swatting mosquitoes to enjoy it?mosquito control application

Lawn Care in Lafayette: Comparing Lawn Care Service Schedule and Frequency

Let’s talk about schedules. Who is showing up when?  At Get Green, their approach is pretty straightforward. They’ve got a 6-treatment plan, and you can expect to see them about every 6 weeks. If 6 treatments aren’t your jam, they’re flexible – they’ll happily do fewer treatments if that’s what you prefer.
lawn care technician treating a beautiful green lawnShades of Green takes a bit of a different approach here. We don’t believe in sticking to a schedule because, let’s face it, Indiana weather doesn’t follow a calendar very well! Instead, we adjust and adapt to what your lawn needs at the time. Some years, your first treatment might happen a little earlier; other years, it might need to be held off a few weeks. We focus on tailoring our care to the unique soil, climate, and conditions we’re working with, building our unique custom formula for each application each year.

We also offer anywhere from 8 to 12 treatments per year. Think of it like a lawn care buffet – your grass gets exactly what it needs to shine, and we make sure it is not under or over-fed.

Get Green vs. Shades of Green: Lawn Care Packages

Let’s be honest – lawn care packages can sometimes feel a bit like ordering from a restaurant without a menu. You’re not quite sure what’s included, and figuring out the cost? That can be a guessing game. But no worries, we’re here to break it down for you.

Starting with Get Green, here’s what we found on their website: they offer 6 treatments per year. The first two are pre-emergent applications with crabgrass protection, followed by custom blends of weed control applied in spring, fall, and as needed throughout the year. They also include organic bio-stimulants and fertilizers to keep your lawn happy and healthy. Bonus points – they throw in a free soil analysis on your first visit, which is always nice.

As for pricing? Well, their website doesn’t say much. They do have a “get a quote” button, so you’ll probably need to fill out the form to see what the final numbers look like.

At Shades of Green, we’ve got a dedicated Lawn Packages page where you’ll find three options – Standard, Preferred, and Premium – each with starting prices per month right there for you to see. Curious about the details? Click on any package and a big, beautiful chart will pop up on that page to show you exactly what’s included.

We’re talking custom-blended fertilization applications, broadleaf weed control, a split application crabgrass program, grub control, spot weed treatments, micronutrient packages, pH adjustments, nutsedge control, and more. And if you’re wondering, “What on earth is broadleaf weed control?” or any of these crazy terms, just click the little question mark for an easy-to-understand explanation.lawn care pricingWant a custom quote? It’s a breeze. You’ll have all the info you need in under 3 minutes – no guessing games required.

Comparing Customer Reviews

When it comes to comparing lawn care companies, many people turn to client reviews – it’s like getting the inside scoop from your neighbors. After all, who better to trust than the folks who’ve already experienced the services firsthand?
