Broadleaf Weed Control

This targets weeds that have already sprouted and are visible in your lawn. While these herbicides are designed for broadleaf weeds, such as dandelions, clover, thistle, and harder to kill weeds, timing is still important. Post-emergent treatments are most effective when weeds are actively growing and before they can produce seeds or spread further. We regularly monitor your lawn as part of each of our packages throughout the year.

Split Application Crabgrass Program

We apply pre-emergent treatments for crabgrass twice a year—once in the fall and again in the spring. We do this so we are able to get better coverage overall. We apply one granular and one liquid application. If any crabgrass does emerge during the summer, we will spot-treat it as needed to ensure your lawn stays healthy and weed-free.

Grub Plus

This treatment is applied in late spring and provides comprehensive protection for your lawn. Not only does it target grubs, but it also safeguards against root-damaging insects like billbugs, chich bugs, sod webworms, army worms, etc. Designed to last from spring through fall, this application ensures your lawn stays healthy and vibrant. We use top-quality products to deliver the best possible defense for your grass with only one treatment.

Spot Treat Weeds

This is a spot treatment for breakthru broadleaf weeds like dandelions, clover, etc. as well as summer annual grassy weeds such as crabgrass, foxtail, etc. as well as yellow nutsedge treatment.

Micronutrient Package

Our soil pH in our service area varies generally between 7-8.3. In this range micronutrients are not available to the plant even if they are in the soil, so we must apply them foliarly. This method of application allows the plants to take the nutrients into the leaf tissue directly, which bypasses the bottleneck of the soil absorption caused by high pH levels.

pH Adjustment

Many companies "backfill" their fertilizer bags with inexpensive limestone to fill the remaining space. While cost-effective, limestone spreads poorly and, over time, can raise the soil's pH to undesirable levels. At Shades of Green, we take a different approach. Instead of limestone, we backfill all of our bags with biosolids (similar to Milorganite), an organic fertilizer that promotes microbial activity and gradually enriches the soil with organic matter. Although this approach costs more, we believe it delivers far greater value to our customers by supporting healthier, more balanced soil over time.

Nutsedge Control

Spot treatments for nutsedge are included in our program to help manage this persistent weed. However, achieving complete control can take time due to nutsedge's rapid spread through its underground nutlets. If your lawn requires more extensive treatment beyond spot spraying, additional applications will incur an extra charge.

Fall Core Aeration

We use specialized equipment to remove small plugs of soil from your lawn, effectively breaking up soil compaction. This process allows grass roots to access more nutrients, grow deeper, and absorb water more efficiently. Over time, compacted soil can suffocate your lawn, hindering its health and growth. To keep your lawn thriving, we recommend scheduling core aeration annually.

Spring Soil Builder

Our spring soil builder enhances soil structure by feeding beneficial microbes that break up compaction. It does this by introducing and inoculating live beneficial bacteria and food for the microbes to help them establish and colonize the soil. This process improves water and nutrient absorption, ensuring your grass roots receive the essentials for healthy growth and a thriving lawn. This is beneficial in the spring to prepare the lawn for growth and to stay resilient during the heat of summer and very beneficial for new lawns or lawns that have been neglected.

Fall Soil Builder

The fall time is a critical time for root growth. Our Fall Soil Builder improves soil structure and allows roots to expand more easily. It does this by introducing and inoculating live beneficial bacteria and food for the microbes to help them establish and colonize the soil. This helps the grass to store nutrients and energy during the winter and helps it to thrive in the spring time. This is a very beneficial service for newly built homes and lawns that have not been taken care of.

Overseeding

Our most popular seeding plan is designed to deliver outstanding results for your lawn. While we are at your property we will apply 5 pounds of premium seed. This process not only helps fill in bare spots but also alleviates compaction, creating an ideal environment for the new seed to establish quickly. We use a top-rated, 100% Turf-Type Tall Fescue seed, specially developed for Shades of Green and tailored to thrive in Indiana's climate—ensuring you get the best seed available for lasting success.

Number of Applications

Each of our lawn care programs includes a specific number of visits to your property. During these visits, we often apply multiple treatments or ‘applications.’ For example, a single visit might involve fertilizing, applying crabgrass preventer, and controlling broadleaf weeds. When comparing lawn care programs across different companies, the number of applications is the most critical aspect to consider.

Free Service Calls
